Concerto Competition Winners Perform for Orchestra Charity

Free admission to concert with food item for Orchestras Feeding America

The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra presents “Concerto Winners in Concert” on Sunday, March 21^st at 3:30 PM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy Upper School, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive Melbourne, 32940. The concert will feature the three winners of the annual concerto competition plus select chamber music ensembles and works for full orchestra led by special guest conductor Michael Garasi. Admission is free with the donation of a canned good or non-perishable food item for the “Orchestras Feeding America” national food drive. The concerto winners include two seniors from Viera High School: flautist Kerry Brown and clarinetist Jeffrey Grantham, as well as a junior from Satellite High School, violinist Alistair Watson.

Now in its 27^th Season, the non-profit BSYO offers talented string, wind, brass and percussion students an opportunity to study orchestral repertoire with peers of equal talent under the direction of a professional conductor. Student musicians play in one of the three orchestras: Symphony (advanced), Concert (intermediate) or String Ensemble (beginning). The BSYO is comprised of 150 talented young musicians ranging in age from seven to 18 years old, representing 60 public, private and home schools. The 2010 Merritt Island Benefit Concert

Who: Central Florida Winds, a non-profit organization formed in Brevard County, Florida in 1999, will be
performing some great Symphonic Band Literature, and the Merritt Island High School Percussion Section will also be performing a few solos and ensembles for your enjoyment.
When: March 6th, 2010 at 7pm
Where: Merritt Island High School Auditorium
Why: All proceeds will go towards the purchasing of much needed new percussion instruments for the Merritt Island High School band. Please come out ready to support your Merritt Island High School Percussionists.
What else to expect: There will be a Silent Basket Auction consisting of many different gift baskets you can place a bid on, as well as two Gift Card Baskets that will be raffled off during the concert. There will also be snacks and plenty of music for you to enjoy.

STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews; and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments -- matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps -- to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans.

After almost 40 years of rock and blues, this sturdy American blues-rock trio from Texas, Billy Gibbons (guitar), Dusty Hill (bass), and Frank Beard (drums) is the longest running major rock band with original band members. Children’s Chorus, Youth Symphony Present Joint Concert

The Brevard Children’s Chorus and the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra will present their 4thannual combined concert on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 3:30 pm at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy Upper School, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive, Melbourne 32940. The family-friendly concert is appropriate for all ages and will feature a variety of pieces from the choral repertoire with selections by the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Also performing will be the chorus’s advanced singers, the Brevard Youth Ensemble. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Children under five years of age are free.

In the last 18 months, the 30-voice group of youngsters has performed numerous concerts in a variety of venues. Included among them are Christmas performances with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and the Brevard Community Chorus at the King Center, while several concerts have been shared with the junior players of the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra.
